One point that I would like to add is that Matthew 5 specifically links 'saltiness' with persecution. The world 'tastes' Christianity when we are 'thrown out and trampled underfoot by men'. It is time that we stopped imagining our witness in the context of situations that we enter into under our initiative and recognize that the world is coming to us, not so much knocking on our door as serving no-knock warrants and that these are our opportunities for witnessing. The blood of the martyrs is truly the seed of the church.
